Metso's new Orange Series Rotor for the Barmac VSI is made up of a simple selection of wear components, as shown in this short clip.
High Quality rotor tips and parts for Barmac Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) crusher
Main components of the new Orange rotor, designed for Metso's Barmac VSI crushers
Operational uptime plays a key role in today's crushing operations, where maximizing productivity and reducing the cost per ton are paramount. To meet these challenges, Metso has developed the new Orange Series Rotor for vertical shaft impact (VSI) crushers. With the new rotors, productive uptime can be increased substantially through longer parts lifetime and faster service.
The new Metso Orange Series Rotor components have been reconfigured with a built-in possibility for easy interchange, thus maximizing wear life. The change-out of primary components through the service door has also been improved.
With the Orange rotors, maintenance is made easy by reducing the total number of wear parts by 30% and the total number of components by 25%. This is achieved by integrating several components and using less fixing points. Hard-facing during maintenance is no longer required.
Significant increase in wear parts life
Tuomas Takalo, Metso's Product Manager for Barmac VSI crushers, describes the increase in wear parts life achieved with the Orange rotor as significant: "We have tested the new primary components in real quarry operations, achieving in most cases greatly enhanced wear life. For example, the tip life was increased by 30-50%."
"In quarry operations, the extended lifetime will provide the operator significantly increased operational uptime," he adds. "Fewer intervals between wear parts changes will clearly increase the total capacities produced."
Parts change time decreases greatly
The change-out of primary components for the Orange rotor through the service door has been improved greatly.
"In tip and cavity wear plates replacement, the actual servicing time can be cut by more than half, due to simplified retaining bar fixing," says Takalo.
According to him, similar time savings can be achieved with other wear parts replacements.
Refresh your VSI operation with Orange rotors
The Orange Series Rotor was designed with the busy operators of the older model of Barmac VSI crushers in mind. The Orange Series Rotor can be fitted, without any modifications, to all VSI models that accept the following rotors: 690 DTR, 840DTR and 990DTR.

The Barmac tungsten tip with its unique high ridge, supporting flange and threaded tab was invented and patented by REMco in 1990. Subsequently the patents were sold to Svedala in 1993. Now the original US patent, # 4,940,188, has expired and REMco can supply all versions of this part.
We offers a wide variety of tips for Barmac VSI machines. We offer many different grades of tungsten inserts to ensure correct application and the longest wear life for the tips without breakage. Different from OEM tips, all of ours are cast steel (not cast iron) to provide the best possible support to the tungsten insert and thus contribute to longer wear life.
Below are the different grades of tungsten tips identified by color
|
Green Tips This grade has broad popularity and it is designed for long life with resistance to breakage for feed sizes below 1 1/2" (40 mm) and for slow to medium rotor speeds.
|
|
White Tip This is a unique tungsten grade supplied only by REMco. It provides impact resistance with feed sizes to 3” (75 mm) and all rotor speeds.
|
|
Black Tips This grade has the highest resistance to chipping and cracking of the tungsten insert. It is recommended for very coarse and boney feeds.

Barmac uses a special 20 mm bolt and copper washer arrangement only available from New Zealand. The Metso style uses no copper washer and a standard commercial Allen Head type 5/8" bolt. The REMco style will install easily in the Barmac rotor. |
Additional grades for special applications to resolve extreme wear or breakage problems that may occur are available. Contact us for tungsten tip information.
